The Girard Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting two City Council and Mayor Candidate forums. Both will be held at the Girard Public Library.
The first introductory forum is scheduled 6 p.m. Monday March 9th and will be moderated by Karen VanLeeuwen, investment advisor representative with VanLeeuwen Financial Services in Pittsburg. Karen will welcome and introduce the candidates. The candidates will have an opportunity to present a short platform speech, introductions, a history of their background and why they chose to run for office. General questions may be presented in writing to the moderator for all candidates but no questions specifically to a single candidate at the first forum. Light refreshments will be served.
The second forum is scheduled 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24th and will be more of a debate forum on specific issues and candidate topics. Those attending will also have an opportunity to present questions in writing to the moderator. The moderator to date has not been confirmed. Pizza and pop will be provided.
Candidates for Mayor are incumbent Maurice Harley, Dan Smith and Mike West. Candidates for first ward City Council are incumbent, Sandra Hallacy, Susie Thom and Randy Thomas. Candidates for third ward are incumbent, Sharon Mattson, and Don Vinardi.
