Talking Books Week - A Celebration for All Kansans

On behalf of all Kansans, I’d like to call attention to a specialized service that adds enjoyment to the lives of many of our print-impaired neighbors and friends. This service is the Kansas Talking Books program, a division of the State Library of Kansas.

Thanks to the Kansas Talking Books program, those among us who have difficulty reading can receive free library materials in Braille or audio format directly to their doorstep. From books, to magazines, to newspapers, to descriptive videos, the breadth of available material is amazing. And, thanks to knowledgeable and dedicated audio specialists, patrons receive individualized assistance with book title selection, and training on using the audio machines.

The opportunity to provide these amazing services to the print-impaired rests with the state and federal government through support at the State Library of Kansas, the Southeast Kansas Library System and through support at our local library, Girard Public Library.
