Library Establishes Endowment Fund

The Girard Public Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the transfer of funds to establish the Girard Public Library Endowment Fund and Non-Endowed Fund (“Sub-Funds”) within the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. The purpose of these funds are to serve as an endowment for the Girard Public Library. The Girard Public Library is a not-for-profit 501C3 organization and gifts are tax deductible.

At the April Library Board Meeing, the Trustees met with Foundation President, Frank Dunick; Executive Director, Chris Ward; and Jeff Smith, representing Vice President, Mark Schifferdecker. The trustees believe that this is an important step in securing the financial future of the library. The foundation may receive donations and gifts to be held in trust to expand resources of the library, provide continuing benefits to the community and offer personal or corporate tax savings. To be a dynamic library, the Girard Public Library needs the financial aid of concerned, civic minded citizens who can help the library extend beyond the financial limits imposed by tax appropriation.

The Girard Public Library exists to provide a professionally selected and well-organized collection of books and multimedia materials for the residents of the community and surrounding area in their pursuit of knowledge, information, education, research, and recreation in such a manner to enrich the quality of life and promote an enlightened citizenry. Access to the collection is assured through a well-trained and courteous staff, an adequate facility, and appropriate outreach services.

The library shall endeavor to cooperate with all appropriate local, state, and federal agencies and shall keep abreast of changing library technology and practice. All this shall be done in a fiscally responsible manner. The trustees along with the Friends of the Girard Public Library will be working with the Community Foundation to secure additional funds for the endowment and greatly appreciate any consideration toward future giving.
